READING: John chapter 9

PHYSICAL BLINDNESS

(verse 1) "As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth."

Sin? genetic? nutritional deficiency? birth accident?

Four kinds of blindness:

  1. Physical
  2. Ignorance
  3. Doubt
  4. The Blindness God cannot Heal

THE BLINDNESS of IGNORANCE

(verse 2) "Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

The real Issue: All men born blind - but I am the LIGHT!

He said, "Open your eyes and you will see
everything that's made by me.
I touch your eyes with muddy clay.
Go wash your blindness all away."
Have you seen that I have got no sight?
Will you flood my darkness with your light?
He said, "Open your eyes and you will see
everything that's made by me."

THE BLINDNESS of DOUBT

(verse 9) "Others said, "No, he only looks like him."

If so, how come the 'real' blind man was not there?

(verse 18) "The Jews still did not believe that he had been blind until they sent for the man's parents."
(verse 24) "A second time they summoned the man who had been born blind."
(verse 34) "How dare you lecture us! And they threw him out."

THE BLINDNESS GOD CANNOT HEAL

Rejecting the light when God reveals him to you.

(verse 41) "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains."

THE BLIND MAN'S SECOND MIRACLE

'Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him." Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you." Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.'
